Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer for the Observability Platform to architect and scale data pipelines handling logs, metrics, and traces across multiple cloud providers.

You will work with Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot), OpenTelemetry, and Kubernetes, mentor engineers, and drive reliability standards with SRE and platform teams. On-call and incident reviews included; a strong distributed systems mindset is expected.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 5+ years observability practices (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, incident management).
• 5+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry (OTLP, semantic conventions).
• 5+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 5+ years with public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• 3+ years designing and scaling distributed data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helmcharts, Kustomize.
• 3+ years with Grafana OSS or similar observability backends.
• 3+ years with IaC tools (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• 3+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot).
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry and related tooling.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability features for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring with SLOs and health checks.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams on reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews.
• Automate workflows and CI/CD enhancements for platform automation.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation and standards.
• Engage with internal teams to gather requirements and roadmap.
• Provide technical leadership through mentorship and architecture reviews.
