Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer for the Observability Platform to design and scale telemetry pipelines across multiple clouds and data centers. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with SRE and Platform teams, and influence platform direction with a focus on reliability and performance.

You will work with Go, Python, and Java to build core services, implement end-to-end monitoring, and drive OpenTelemetry initiatives across Fortune 6 scale environments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of Software Engineering experience with strong backend skills.
• 5+ years in observability, SLIs/SLOs, alerting and incident management.
• 5+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing OpenTelemetry across platforms.
• 5+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 5+ years with public clouds (AWS, GCP or Azure).
• 3+ years designing scalable distributed data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helm/Kustomize and related tooling.
• 3+ years with Grafana, Loki, Tempo or similar backends.
• 3+ years with Terraform or CloudFormation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services.
• Lead enterprise adoption of OpenTelemetry and related patterns.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines.
• Develop self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring, SLOs, health checks and alerts.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams on reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident analysis.
• Automate workflows, CI/CD, and platform automation.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and standards.
• Gather requirements and influence roadmap with engineering teams.
