Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead Bridge Engineer, Structural Engineering, for our Herndon, VA office. In this role you will lead multi-disciplinary teams on bridge design, rehabilitation, and related transportation projects within the Mid-Atlantic South District Transportation Team.

You will apply advanced structural engineering methods, supervise design and construction activities, prepare reports and construction plans, and coordinate with owners, sub-consultants, and clients to ensure safety and quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Knowledge and experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation, new design and construction projects.
  • Working knowledge with sustainability concepts and reducing hazards and greenhouse gas.
  • Well-defined knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong ability to perform technical computations and interpretations of plans and specs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and construction of bridges and related infrastructure.
  • Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; coordinate with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Oversee cross-functional teams to manage design, construction, rehabilitation, and remediation projects; track hours, expenses, and resources.
  • Prepare data visualizations, reports, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for interpretation and presentation of analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining research, concepts, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate, review and approve infrastructure design plans, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally and confidently.
  • Stay current with latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
