Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Bridge Engineer in Herndon, VA to join our Mid-Atlantic South District Transportation Team. You will provide high-level structural engineering guidance on multi-site projects, from concept to construction, ensuring safety and durability of infrastructure.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Structural or Civil Engineering, a professional engineering license, and 7–10 years of experience in bridge design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline including structural or civil design.
• Engineer license required.
• Proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
• Knowledge and experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
• Experience with sustainability concepts and reducing hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
• Knowledge of codes, regulations, and QA/QC requirements.
• Ability to perform technical computations, read plans, and compare to regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to lead and coordinate teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level technical guidance for design, analysis, and construction of bridges and transportation infrastructure.
• Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; update layout plans coordinating with owners and clients.
• Oversee cross-functional teams to manage budgets, hours, expenses, and compliance documentation.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations explaining research, concepts, and recommendations.
• Coordinate, review, and approve infrastructure design plans for data integrity and regulatory compliance.
