Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Bridge/Structural Engineer for our Washington, DC or Herndon, VA office. You will work within the Transportation Team on a range of highway, rail, and pedestrian structures, supporting senior engineers with design, analysis, and field activities.

The role involves preparing design plans, conducting inspections, performing modeling and analysis, and contributing to reports and rehabilitation studies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of post-education engineering experience in structural or civil design.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of structural engineering principles and design/build processes.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards (AASHTO, AREMA, state DOT).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proactive safety compliance and adherence to policies.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in analysis, design, and evaluation of transportation structures under guidance of senior engineers.
  • Perform structural calculations for bridge components and develop models.
  • Prepare bridge design plans and contract documents using CADD tools.
  • Conduct field inspections and condition assessments of bridges and related structures.
  • Prepare quantity and cost estimates; review drawings for design intent and specs.
  • Apply applicable design codes and standards to project work.
  • Support senior engineers with broader engineering activities and documentation.
  • Develop data visualizations and present findings to the team.
