Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Lead AI Systems Engineer to join the AI Transformation and Experience team. This hands-on contributor role focuses on designing, building, deploying, and operating production software with AI/ML components, while emphasizing robust software engineering practices.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate across teams, and help deliver AI-enabled enterprise solutions for government programs, with the role fully remote.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 7+ years of experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
• 3+ years of experience with AI/ML technologies.
• 5+ years of experience designing or building solutions in cloud environments.
• Experience owning software through deployment, production operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and evolution.
• Strong fundamentals in API design, testing, source control, and secure development.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop production AI software applications with scalability and integration.
• Own complex technical problems from exploration to production and improvement.
• Write high-quality code and contribute to APIs, services, tests, and tooling.
• Build AI-enabled apps that integrate models, data, cloud services, and legacy systems.
• Apply automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and performance practices.
• Evaluate emerging AI tech and determine practical value for production.
