Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Lead AI Software Engineer to join the AI Transformation and Experience team. This remote, hands-on role focuses on designing, building, deploying, and improving AI-enabled software across enterprise and government programs.

Ideal candidates have extensive production systems experience, cloud design skills, and strong Python/system programming capability. You will mentor engineers and contribute to architecture, tooling, and best practices while delivering impactful

Qualifications

7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production systems.
3+ years of experience with AI, ML, or related technologies.
5+ years of experience designing/building solutions in cloud environments.
Experience owning software through deployment, production operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and evolution.
Strong fundamentals in API design, testing, source control, and secure development.
Experience with AWS/Azure/GCP or similar cloud platforms.
Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and observability.
Ability to communicate technical decisions and risks clearly.

Responsibilities

Design and develop AI software applications with scalability and enterprise integration.
Develop systems software for operating/controlling hardware and running internal apps.
Build AI-enabled applications integrating models, data, cloud services, and APIs.
Apply engineering practices including automated testing, observability, security, and performance improvements.
Mentor engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
