CareerNerds, LLC is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead the second shift in the paint operations department at a Grand Rapids, Michigan automotive manufacturing facility. You will oversee one Team Leader and about 25 workers, focusing on safety, quality, on-time delivery, and workforce engagement.

Responsibilities include directing daily production, solving line issues, maintaining coating quality, and driving continuous improvement with Lean and 5S methods.

Competenze

• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Strong floor leadership skills: organize people, set expectations, resolve issues, maintain accountability.
• Automotive manufacturing experience is preferred; plastic injection molding, blow molding, painted plastics are desirable.
• Familiarity with unionized environments, collective bargaining rules and attendance/discipline helpful.
• Knowledge of production metrics, quality controls, scrap reduction, downtime management, and continuous improvement methods.

Mansioni

• Provide hands-on leadership for second-shift paint operations and ensure safe, efficient execution of the production schedule.
• Lead and coach one Team Leader and ~25 employees across loading, unloading, line support, inventory control, material handling, and quality.
• Assign labor and resources to meet daily production requirements and maintain shift continuity.
• Monitor paint-line performance, quality, scrap, downtime, and material usage; take timely corrective actions.
• Promote safety culture and ensure compliance with PPE, chemical-handling standards, and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Production to resolve defects and process variation.
• Troubleshoot automated paint line, robotics, conveyors, sensors, and controls; escalate as needed to minimize downtime.
• Ensure materials, packaging, and components are staged and tracked to support operations.
• Conduct shift start-up meetings, communicate priorities, and handover to next shift/leadership.
• Train and develop employees, reinforce standardized work, and address performance issues in a unionized setting.
• Complete production reports and quality documentation; drive continuous improvement via Lean, 5S, and root-cause problem solving.
