Job summary

Food Management Search, Inc. is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead the second-shift paint operations for our automotive supplier client in Grand Rapids, MI.

You will oversee one Team Leader and about 25 employees, focusing on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and engagement in a unionized facility. Responsibilities include coordinating labor, monitoring line performance, promoting a strong safety culture, and driving continuous improvement with Lean/5S practices.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Strong floor leadership ability with accountability in a fast-paced operation.
• Automotive manufacturing experience and familiarity with plastic painting processes preferred.
• Knowledge of paints, coatings, surface prep, curing or finish requirements preferred.
• Experience in a unionized manufacturing facility and with collective bargaining environments preferred.
• Exposure to automated lines, robotics, PLC-controlled equipment and production automation desirable.
• Understanding of production metrics, quality controls, scrap reduction, downtime management and Lean/5S.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Able to work full second shift and be present before/after shift as needed.
• Relevant leadership training or technical qualification is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on leadership for second-shift paint operations and safe, efficient execution of the production schedule.
• Lead, coach, and manage one Team Leader and ~25 production employees across multiple functions.
• Assign labor/resources to meet daily production needs and ensure shift continuity.
• Monitor paint-line performance, quality, scrap, downtime, and material usage; take corrective action.
• Promote safety culture and ensure compliance with procedures, PPE, chemical handling and regs.
• Maintain product appearance by coordinating with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance and Production teams.
• Troubleshoot automated paint line, robotics, conveyors, sensors, and related equipment.
• Ensure proper staging and control of paint, components, packaging, and materials.
• Conduct shift start-up meetings and effective handovers; communicate priorities and expectations.
• Train/develop employees, reinforce standard work, address performance, and apply policies.
• Complete shift records and drive continuous improvement with Lean, 5S and root-cause analysis.
