Job summary

Quest Diagnostics is seeking a Laboratory Manager in Pittsburgh, PA. The role oversees planning, coordination and supervision of all laboratory activities, ensuring high quality, safety and efficiency in a large clinical lab setting.

Responsibilities include directing lab work, mentoring staff, enforcing QA and regulatory standards, staffing, budgeting, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years laboratory experience with at least four years direct supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• ASCP Certification preferred; Current California CLS license required (CA only).

Responsibilities

• Plan, assign and direct work in the laboratory; liaise with other areas as needed.
• Mentor and support direct reports; implement training for supervisory skill development.
• Define, coordinate and monitor quality assurance programs; supervise department QA activities and inspections.
• Oversee staffing; hire, train and develop staff; conduct performance evaluations.
• Identify future staffing, equipment and facilities needs; coordinate procurement.
• Review test performance; drive process improvements and project management; submit reports.
• Manage test databases; ensure SOPs and databases reflect current processes.
• Coordinate R&D activities related to operations; participate in committees as needed.
• Develop annual budget; manage department costs and resources to meet budget.
• Resolve problems via client interactions; ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
