Job summary

Quest Diagnostics Incorporated in Marlborough, MA seeks a Senior Director, Laboratory Operations to oversee lab units with substantial revenue and ~400–500 staff. You will ensure quality, regulatory compliance, and overall lab budget, while leading a ~15-person team and driving continuous improvement across the network.

The role is onsite in Marlborough with significant cross-functional collaboration across R&D, Sales, Finance and IT.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Life science or engineering required.
• Master's degree in Life Science or Business preferred.
• Minimum 10 years in laboratory or manufacturing operations management in regulated industries.
• At least 5 years of demonstrated overall management and P&L responsibilities.
• Experience with highly automated operations and LEAN principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Lab Ops strategies, plans, and initiatives to improve operations and drive revenue growth.
• Oversee daily operations, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage resource allocation, scheduling and workflow to optimize throughput and reduce downtime.
• Take full P&L responsibility for Lab operations, including budgeting and financial performance data.
• Drive a culture of innovation and operational excellence across Lab Ops.
• Lead implementation of daily management system across lab departments.
• Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams on process improvements.
• Collaborate with NLO, Automation, and vendors to evaluate new technologies and best practices.
• Coordinate HR activities related to hiring, policies, and worker's compensation issues.
• Ensure open communication between laboratories and other stakeholders (IT, client services, sales, etc.).
• Manage a team of ~15 direct reports and monitor turnaround times for assays.
• Establish preventive measures for delayed reports and coordinate QA activities.
