Job summary

The Yay Company is seeking a Kitchen & Service Assistant to keep the cafe stocked and running smoothly during lunch service and grab‑and‑go. You’ll support the Lead Cook with prep, labeling, and staging, and may assist with delivery to spoke schools when needed.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on role that values reliability, accuracy, and a friendly presence with students. You’ll report to the Kitchen Manager and work closely with the Lead Cook to ensure items are prepared on time, labeled

Qualifications

• Experience in a kitchen, café, or food service environment.
• Strong attention to labeling, staging, and portioning.
• Food handler certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Reliable, self-directed and team-oriented.
• Comfortable with delivery if required.

Responsibilities

• Handle mise en place for the Lead Cook - washing, chopping, weighing, and portioning ingredients.
• Keep the Lead Cook's station clean and organized between production runs.
• Label every item leaving the kitchen with date, quantity, and use-by date.
• Stage items by school, service time, or route.
• Pack food for delivery to spoke schools and assist with transport as needed.
• Distribute pre-order lunches and manage grab-and-go checkout.
• Stock and maintain grab-and-go fridge and shelves.
• Clean as you go and assist with end-of-shift breakdown.
