Job summary

Cannon Design is seeking an HVAC design support engineer in Chicago. You will work under a licensed engineer on projects across education, healthcare, corporate, and science sectors, performing early designs of ductwork, piping, and controls, and assisting with Revit/BIM modeling from schematic through construction administration.

Requirements include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (ABET preferred), knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics, and internship experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required by hire date; ABET accreditation preferred.
• Knowledge of heat transfer, solar energy, and advanced fluid dynamics in HVAC design.
• Related internship experience preferred.
• EIT accreditation and LEED preferred.
• Strong communication and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist with uncomplicated HVAC system designs including ductwork, piping, and controls under supervision.
• Prepare Building Load Calculations using modeling software.
• Possibly prepare Energy Models with supervisory oversight.
• Assist/Revit/BIM modeling of HVAC systems from schematic to construction phases.
• Coordinate with specifications as part of the design team.
• Draft reports for senior engineers review.
• Review submittals and shop drawings for contract compliance.
• May perform site visits for conditions and progress.
