Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp is hiring Journey Line Workers to build, maintain and restore electric service across its service territory. This full‑time, outdoor role requires completing a line worker apprenticeship or IBEW program, and includes climbing poles, handling cables and performing substation work.

Openings are posted for multiple locations, with a wage range starting at $51.92 per hour and progressing to $57.96.

Qualifications

• Completion of a federal or state sanctioned line worker apprenticeship with approved documentation.
• Must possess a valid Class A driving permit by first day of employment.
• Must pass a DMV medical exam by first day of employment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to wear company provided PPE.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to work in all weather and road conditions.
• Capable to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Pre-employment testing: drug screen, background check, POPA.
• Experience with transmission and distribution work; rubber gloving and hot stick procedures.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Travel to job locations within assigned region.
• Review job work requirements and provide input for the day.
• Load/unload tools and materials.
• Lift and carry insulators, cross-arms and equipment to/from job sites.
• Climb poles and work on elevated structures.
• Test, frame, and set poles; install cross-arms and lines.
• Perform substation switching and install equipment.
• Set/energize transformers and take voltage readings.
• Troubleshoot and repair overhead/underground lines.
• Operate tools and equipment; work in trenches and confined spaces.
