Job summary

FirstEnergy is hiring Journeyworker Lineworkers to build and maintain electric power systems across Ohio. Openings are in Akron, OH and surrounding areas; candidates must have completed an approved lineworker apprenticeship and hold a valid Class A license.

The role involves climbing poles, testing and terminating cables, working outdoors in all weather, and complying with safety protocols; travel to job sites and mentoring apprentices may be involved.

Qualifications

• Completion of federal or state sanctioned line worker apprenticeship with supporting documentation.
• Valid Class A driving permit by first day of employment.
• Pass DMV medical exam by first day of employment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to wear company provided PPE.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to work and drive in all weather conditions.
• Capable to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Travels to various job locations within assigned region.
• Reviews job work requirements and provides input for the day’s work.
• Loads/unloads tools, materials and supplies at crew HQ and job sites.
• Climbs poles and operates insulated platforms.
• Sets and energizes transformers and test readings.
• Troubleshoots and determines extent of repairs on lines.
• Performs work in heights and confined spaces.
