Job summary

Union College in Schenectady, NY seeks ITS Helpdesk work-study student for Fall 2026. Start fall term with AM shifts; provides tier-one support, setup and walk-in assistance in Schaffer Library & Peschel Computer Center.

Position emphasizes confidentiality and professional interaction with faculty, staff, and students, with potential for leadership of new student workers. Hours are limited to fall, winter, and spring terms.

Qualifications

  • PC and Mac software/hardware basics, plus mobile devices knowledge.
  • Available in 2-hour blocks Mon–Fri between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., AM shifts preferred.
  • Positive, professional attitude with initiative and motivation.
  • Strict confidentiality about information seen on duty.

Responsibilities

  • Tier-one telephone support
  • Greeting and assistance for walk-ins
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software
  • Deliver and set-up computers, monitors, printers, and peripherals
  • Inventory and stock management, including locating, counting, moving, cleaning, and recycling
  • General office duties, including back-up at Reception or Operations
  • Interact with faculty, staff, and students
  • Assist in department events and set-up
  • Potential management, scheduling, and/or training of new student workers

Please Note: Hours are only during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms; not including any breaks.

Rate of Pay: $9.70/hr

Number of Positions available: 5

Location: Schenectady, NY

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Tier-one telephone support
  • Greeting and assistance for walk-ins
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software
  • Deliver and set-up computers, monitors, printers, and other peripherals
  • Inventory and stock management, includes but is not limited to locating, counting, moving, cleaning, and recycling
  • General office duties, which may include back-up at the Reception Desk or assistance in Operations
  • Personal and technical interaction with faculty, staff, and students
  • Involvement in Department special events and/or set-up of events
  • Potential management, scheduling, and/or training of new student workers
Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of PC and Mac software and hardware, as well as knowledge of mobile devices
  • Work availability in blocks of at least 2 hours at a time Mondays - Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m *Seeking students able to fill AM shifts*
  • Positive and professional attitude, initiative, and motivation
  • Adherence to strict confidentiality regarding any personal, professional, or scholastic information obtained orally or viewed while on duty
