Position Overview

The IT Support Specialist Intern provides remote technical support to team members across multiple locations while developing skills in business analysis, systems analysis, and process improvement. Responsibilities include user access, software, devices, onboarding/offboarding, and supporting practical improvements to company systems and workflows.

This is a paid, 6‑month internship with hands‑on operational responsibilities and two defined projects per term. The intern currently reports directly to Richard Hoffman, COO, who sets priorities, assigns work, reviews project milestones, and approves deliverables. Technical guidance and mentoring may also be provided by designated team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide remote technical support through tickets, chat, email, phone, and remote support tools.
  • Troubleshoot password, MFA, login, and account access issues in Microsoft Entra ID and related systems.
  • Support user access to SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Microsoft 365, Slack, Google Workspace, and approved business applications.
  • Install, update, and troubleshoot approved software on Windows 11 devices.
  • Support Windows 11 endpoints and managed iPads, including troubleshooting, reset, wipe, redeployment, and enrollment workflows.
  • Assist with IT onboarding and offboarding, including account setup, device preparation, application access, licensing, and access removal.
  • Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, escalation notes, and repeatable procedures.
  • Identify recurring issues and help improve support checklists, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures.
  • Gather business requirements by meeting with stakeholders, documenting needs, pain points, current workflows, and desired outcomes.
  • Perform business and systems analysis, including process mapping, application evaluations, data quality reviews, reporting needs, system requirements, and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare process maps, requirements summaries, spreadsheets, dashboards, system comparisons, and practical recommendations for management review.
  • Complete TWO assigned and approved projects during each 6‑month internship term, each with a defined scope, milestones, measurable objectives, documented deliverables, and a final presentation and handoff to the COO.
  • Provide regular project updates, validate findings with stakeholders, promptly raise blockers, and participate in milestone and final project reviews.
  • Perform other reasonable work‑related duties and assignments as requested by Richard Hoffman, COO, or a person he authorizes, consistent with the intern’s skills, training, company policies, and business needs.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Relevant coursework, training, practical experience, or demonstrated interest in IT, information systems, business analysis, or a related field; previous full‑time IT experience is not required.
  • Foundational ability to troubleshoot Windows devices and learn new applications and technical support workflows.
  • Basic understanding of user accounts, password/MFA issues, access permissions, and appropriate escalation practices, or willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID or similar identity tools is beneficial; ability to learn account and access troubleshooting processes.
  • Working familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Office desktop applications.
  • Basic proficiency with Excel or comparable spreadsheet tools and an interest in process mapping, requirements gathering, and data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document work and explain technical or analytical findings to nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, work independently during agreed remote hours, protect confidential information, ask questions, and follow through on commitments.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 30 and up to 40 hours per week on an agreed remote schedule, and to complete a 6‑month program term.
  • Willingness to take direction from the COO, accept reasonable assigned tasks, and deliver two business, systems, or IT improvement projects per 6‑month term.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic experience supporting iPads or iPadOS devices in a business environment.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Intune, Apple Business Manager, or MDM‑managed Apple devices.
  • Basic Google Workspace support experience.
  • Experience with onboarding/offboarding checklists, asset tracking, or device lifecycle support.
  • Experience creating knowledge base articles, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, or user‑facing documentation.
  • Familiarity with business process mapping, business requirements, systems analysis, spreadsheets, dashboards, data validation, or software evaluations.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, Microsoft Endpoint‑related certification, ITIL Foundation, or similar certification a plus.
