Job summary

H.F. Lenz Company is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern for its 2027 Summer Internship Program in Johnstown, PA. You will join multi-disciplinary teams focusing on real-world structural design tasks and gain hands-on experience using Revit, RAM Elements and STAAD.

The program emphasizes professional development, collaboration, and hands-on learning, with opportunities to participate in real-life projects and seminars. Travel to project sites is expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited Civil/Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering program with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
• Academic coursework relevant to structural design is preferred.
• Self-motivated with strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Prior internship experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks related to structural design.
• Learn basic principles of structural design with exposure to steel, concrete and wood.
• Coordinate designs with multi-disciplinary project teams.
• Become proficient with design platforms such as Revit, RAM Elements and STAAD.
• Travel to project sites and assist with existing condition surveys.

Requirements/Responsibilities

What You’ll Get to Do:

• Support a variety of engineering tasks related to structural design.
• Learn basic principles of structural design, with exposure to steel, concrete and wooden structures.
• Function as part of the design team and utilize engineering design concepts.
• Become an expert with design platforms such as Revit, RAM Elements and STAAD.
• Perform basic engineering calculations.
• Assist in engineering related studies and surveys.
• Coordinate designs with multiple-disciplinary project teams.
• Travel to project sites and assist with existing condition surveys.

What You’ll Need:

• Enrolled in an accredited Civil/Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering program with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
• Knowledge of 2D and 3D modeling, including Revit.
• Proficiency with basic computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Academic coursework that is relevant to structural design is preferred.
• Self-motivated with strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• A strong interest and desire to learn building systems design and construction.
• Prior internship experience is preferred, but not required.
