Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Psychiatry unit (1East). This full-time day shift (7 am–7:30 pm) position involves delivering professional nursing care per physician plans, assessing needs, documenting observations, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to meet patient and family needs.

The role emphasizes teaching, discharge planning, and ensuring safe, patient-centered care in an inpatient psychiatric setting.

Qualifications

• Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice from a two year accredited program.
• Current New York State license as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS certification and de-escalation training.
• ACLS (ICU, Float pool, Emergency Dept).
• TCAR Certification (SICU, PACU).
• PALS, TNCC (within first year) for Emergency Dept.
• CPI and BERT training for Behavioral health RNs within six months.
• BLS/ACLS/PALS must be through AHA.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients and families; customer service excellence.

Responsibilities

• The registered nurse collects patient health data involving the patient, family and other health care providers.
• Performs initial assessment based on patient's presentation.
• Records relevant data on the nursing component of the Interdisciplinary Admission Assessment.
• Demonstrates awareness of the special needs of each age group or culture served as well as those patients with disabilities.
• Ongoing assessments are performed as established by department policy and patient response.
• Incorporates discharge planning into the admission process.
• Communicates plan of care to patient, family and other health care providers to promote continuity of care.
• Documents the initial plan of care and provides updates as required.
