Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk, part of NYU Langone Medical Center, seeks a Psychiatric Technician for the In-Patient Psyche unit. You will collaborate with Behavioral Health staff to observe, care for, and treat an adult psychiatric population in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires strong interpersonal skills, adherence to safety policies, and the ability to document observations and participate in care plans under RN supervision. Evening/night schedule and weekend alt shifts apply.

Qualifications

• To qualify you must have a High School diploma or comparable education equivalent.
• Ability to work effectively with Behavioral Health patients.
• Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention technique.
• First Aid Training.
• BLS Certification.
• De-escalation Training.

Responsibilities

• Provision of Patient Care: identify unusual behavior and communicate observations to RN.
• Document patient behavior and changes during 1:1 observation with RN input.
• Apply restraints appropriately on an annual basis.
• Follow hospital policies regarding restraint, seclusion, and 1:1 observation.
• Recognize verbal/non-verbal communication problems and report to appropriate channels.
• Protect patient confidentiality according to NYS and Federal guidelines.
• Complete rounds and report status changes to the nurse in charge.
• Contribute to development of individual master treatment plans with the RN.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients and others at all times.
• Set limits under nursing direction in a humane manner.
• Protect patient privacy and rights daily.
• Contribute to evaluating the therapeutic environment and report non-therapeutic components.
• Complete errands (transporting, searches, delivering supplies, etc.).
• Perform 1:1 within Behavioral Health as needed and verify with RN.
• Know location of Dr. Heavy button, restraints, and security numbers.
• Complete contraband searches upon admission and relay pertinent information.
