Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician I to support care for children and adolescents, ages 5-17, in the inpatient behavioral health unit or ED. Reports to an RN and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team.

The role includes direct patient care, participation in therapeutic activities, documentation, crisis management, and family instruction. High school diploma and BLS required; 0–2 years experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree for counseling, psychology, social work or related degree, or nursing preferred.
• Associate degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects data and contributes to assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of individualized care.
• Provide direct patient care with RN direction and in collaboration with direct care staff.
• Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic activities per treatment plan goals.
• Document in the medical record per policy.
• Encourage patients in activities of daily living.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and report safety concerns.
• Communicate with the treatment team and charge nurse about observations.
• Manage crisis situations with positive approaches.
• Provide instruction to patients and families under RN direction; may apply/remove restraints as needed.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
• Conduct safety rounds and monitor milieu; report unsafe conditions.
• Perform other duties as required.
