Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for inpatient encounters based on documentation in the EMR.

The role requires knowledge of coding guidelines, DRG/APC systems, and the ability to query physicians when needed. Non-exempt status applies, with on-site work in Wisconsin.

Experience with AHIMA guidelines and encoder software is preferred, and strong communication with care teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program, or two extra years of related experience in lieu of degree.
• One year of inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program or equivalent.
• RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient encounters based on documentation.
• Utilize encoder/EHR tools and follow coding guidelines and regulatory rules.
• Query physicians when needed to clarify diagnoses or procedures.
• Maintain high quality of coding and compliance with AHIMA standards.
