Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder to accurately assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient encounters based on documentation in the electronic medical record, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines.

The role is non-exempt and requires RHIT/RHIA/CCS certification with at least one year of inpatient coding experience or completion of the Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice/Transition Program. Proficiency in DRG/APC systems and EPIC/EHR is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program or two years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
• 1 year inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice/Transition Program.
• RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient encounters based on documentation.
• Ensure coding compliance with regulatory guidelines and hospital policy.
• Collaborate with coding team and stakeholders to review coded accounts and queries.
