Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for inpatient encounters based on documentation within the EMR, while maintaining compliance with established rules and regulatory guidelines.

The position requires RHIT/RHIA/CCS or equivalent certification, at least one year of inpatient coding experience or completion of the Coding Apprentice Program, and strong knowledge of coding guidelines, DRG/APC systems, and EMR proficiency.

Qualifications

• One year of inpatient coding experience or completion of the Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice or Transition Program.
• Associate’s degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program.
• Certification RHIT, RHIA or CCS required.

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient encounters accurately based on documentation in the EMR.
• Ensure coding compliance with AHIMA guidelines and standards.
• Collaborate with clinicians for clarification via physician queries.
