Job summary

Granite Construction Incorporated seeks an engineering cost specialist to provide technical information ensuring compliance with standards and support for estimating, controls, and project scheduling in a heavy civil environment. Responsibilities include interpreting drawings, coordinating with on-site teams, developing take-offs and cost data, and assisting with change orders and bid preparation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.
• 2+ years' construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Working knowledge of drawing standards, materials and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with job controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting and job costing.
• Interpret design/drawings for craft workers installing material to ensure specifications are followed.
• Interface with on-site departments to resolve problems and support project schedule.
• Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems to verify compliance with codes, drawings and specs.
• Prepare and disseminate documentation records such as status reports, punch lists, sketches, and material calculations.
• Provide technical support and direction for project material controls to minimize costs.
• Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, and estimates.
• Provide building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and installation.
• Develop essential data including take-offs, material prices, and labor/equipment costs for estimates and bids.
• Research historical data to compile guideline summaries for future estimates.
• May supervise and mentor project staff to ensure standards are met.
• Represent the company in client/project meetings to ensure effective communication.
