Job summary

Heartstrings Pet Hospice in San Antonio, Texas is seeking In-Home Hospice and Euthanasia Veterinarians to serve pet families in the local area. This role offers autonomy outside a traditional clinic, with meaningful relationships and time to practice compassionate end-of-life care in homes.

This position focuses on in-home hospice, palliative care, and compassionate euthanasia, with flexible scheduling and no non-compete.

Qualifications

• DVM/VMD/BVMS or equivalent from an accredited program.
• Active veterinary license in the state(s) where services are provided.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel between scheduled appointments.
• Ability to work independently as a mobile veterinarian.
• Strong communication and empathy during sensitive hospice conversations.
• Availability for rotational weekend scheduling.
• Lift/carry up to 50 pounds unassisted; assist with up to 100 pounds.
• Background and motor vehicle record checks required.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home hospice, palliative care, QoL support, and euthanasia services.
• Travel to scheduled appointments in a mobile veterinary care setting.
• Perform exams, clinical assessments, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia.
• Educate families on QoL decisions and end-of-life options with empathy.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
• Communicate professionally with families and the Heartstrings team.
• Safely handle and assist with movement of companion animals in homes.
• Maintain professionalism and sound medical judgment while in the field.
• Demonstrate Heartstrings' Compassion, Dignity, and Respect in every interaction.
