Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a founding engineer within our Compliance organization to identify and prototype high-impact automation opportunities across transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and regulatory change management.

You will work inside the Office of the CTO, embedding with Compliance to translate workflows into engineering requirements and drive measurable adoption of AI tooling. You will help define the build-vs-buy strategy, ensure audit-ready outputs with human-in-the-loop

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in complex, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering and evaluation frameworks.
• Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance concepts: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, audit-ready data handling.
• Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration, handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Experience in compliance-tech, RegTech, or financial services is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface high-leverage automation opportunities.
• Prototype quickly on Coinbase's AI platform and define build-vs-buy strategies.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with leadership, translating workflows into engineering specs.
• Ensure outputs are traceable, reviewable, and defensible to regulators with proper audit trails.
• Drive adoption through brown-bags, walkthroughs, and feedback loops with Compliance teams.
