Job description

A respected immigration law firm in San Juan, PR is seeking an Immigration Attorney with a focus on humanitarian applications, particularly U-Visas. This role provides the opportunity to work with a diverse client base in a high-impact practice area, representing both detained and non-detained individuals in removal and humanitarian relief proceedings. The position offers meaningful client interaction, professional growth, and collaboration with a skilled legal team.

Duties
  1. Represent clients in humanitarian and removal defense cases, including proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
  2. Manage a caseload primarily focused on U-Visa and related humanitarian applications
  3. Conduct legal intakes with detained and non-detained individuals
  4. Prepare and review immigration applications and supporting documentation
  5. Meet with clients to provide strategic consultations and develop personalized case strategies
  6. Collaborate with law enforcement and community-based organizations on humanitarian case coordination
  7. Draft legal briefs, motions, and related filings for USCIS and EOIR
  8. Prepare clients and witnesses for USCIS interviews and immigration court testimony
  9. Maintain detailed and accurate case documentation and timelines
  10. Stay informed about updates in immigration law relevant to humanitarian relief
Requirements
  • 1–4 years of experience in immigration law, with a focus on humanitarian applications such as U-Visas
  • Proven ability to manage and move cases forward efficiently
  • Experience handling detained and non-detained immigration matters
  • Willingness to collaborate closely with legal team members and support staff
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred but not required)
Education

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications

Active bar membership in any U.S. state or territory

Skills
  • Strong legal writing, oral advocacy, and research skills
  • Excellent client communication and case assessment abilities
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Experience using immigration case management software (preferred)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team
