Job description

A respected law firm is seeking an Immigration Attorney to lead compliance and case management efforts for clients in San Juan, PR. This role focuses on high-level immigration compliance work including removal defense, family-based petitions, and humanitarian applications. The position offers the opportunity to work with a skilled legal team while managing a robust caseload and providing strategic legal counsel. It is ideal for experienced attorneys who are detail-oriented and passionate about ensuring legal accuracy and consistency across immigration matters.

Duties
  1. Represent both detained and non-detained individuals in proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
  2. Prepare and review family-based and humanitarian applications including I-130s, asylum, and waivers
  3. Conduct client intake interviews, including at detention centers as needed
  4. Oversee case compliance with legal standards and regulatory changes
  5. Provide detailed legal analysis and identify eligibility for immigration relief
  6. Review application packets prepared by paralegals and ensure accuracy
  7. Develop legal strategies for each case and prepare clients and witnesses for USCIS interviews or court testimony
  8. Draft and submit legal briefs, motions, and supporting documentation
  9. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving immigration policies and regulations
  10. Coordinate with law enforcement, community groups, and advocacy organizations to support client needs
Requirements
  1. 5–8 years of experience in immigration law
  2. Background in both family-based petitions and removal defense cases
  3. Experience with compliance review and regulatory documentation
  4. Demonstrated ability to lead or support a team of attorneys and legal assistants
  5. Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred but not required)
Education

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications

Active bar membership in any U.S. state or territory (Puerto Rico residency required)

  2. Advanced knowledge of immigration forms and legal strategies
  3. Exceptional attention to detail and case file organization
  4. Proficiency with immigration case management software (preferred)
