Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a Software Developer in the Computing Directorate, matrixed to the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center (NARAC) Program. The role builds desktop and web applications to support emergency planning and response for atmospheric releases, working with scientists and engineers in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.

The position offers a hybrid schedule with potential work from home up to two days per week.

Qualifications

• U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance required; U.S. citizenship.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a technical related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Advanced experience in object-oriented programming using C++ or Java.
• Advanced experience applying development standards to write clean, scalable, secure code.
• Advanced experience with Git or equivalent version control systems.
• Advanced analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills for team collaboration and management communication.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate in development and implementation of desktop and web applications using industry-standard software engineering practices and high-level programming languages.
• Guide projects through all phases of the SDLC from requirements to deployment and optimization.
• Conduct peer code reviews and author high-quality technical documentation for internal teams and end-users.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to align deliverables with objectives.
• Interact with developers, management, and sponsors to discuss insights and future architecture.
• Provide swift technical solutions to complex user requests and critical operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
