Humana Inc is seeking a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver scalable, auditable real-time recommendations.

You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring exactly-once semantics and high performance under concurrency. Hands‑on technical leadership includes mentoring engineers, setting standards, and delivering production‑ready services built on Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience with at least 1–2 years leading platform reliability or production operations.
• Strong experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript in production systems.
• Hands-on with automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/end-to-end).
• Solid understanding of observability: logs, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerts.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and containers.
• Proven ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractor resources while contributing as an IC.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot).

Responsibilities

• Own platform scale and reliability pod delivery from planning to operational readiness.
• Ensure uptime, performance, resilience, and quality across services.
• Build and maintain automated testing, observability tooling, and platform infra improvements.
• Write production code and lead by example in reliability and quality engineering.
• Define release readiness criteria and quality gates for production ownership.
• Mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews and uphold standards.
• Collaborate with decisioning, orchestration, and data teams to address reliability risks early.
• Communicate operational risks and engineering tradeoffs to leadership.
• Support cross-team coordination for scalable, auditable systems.
