Job summary

Humana Inc. seeks a Lead Full Stack Engineer to architect and deliver real-time decisioning services within the NBA platform. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring robustness, traceability, and scalability in a regulated healthcare environment.

You will lead a small team, mentor contractors, and write production code across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript while collaborating with platform, data, and product teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience, with 1–2 years leading platform reliability, quality engineering, SRE, or production operations initiatives.
• Strong experience building production software across Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks including integration, end-to-end, load, and quality automation.
• Strong observability practices: structured logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems: fault tolerance, retries, resilience, and recovery.
• Ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractor resources as an active contributor.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Clear communicator who articulates operational risks and tradeoffs to leadership.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools like Claude, Copilot to improve productivity.

Responsibilities

• Pod delivery ownership for platform scale and reliability across NBA platform.
• Own uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence of platform services.
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks spanning unit to load testing; set quality standards.
• Contribute production code and build reliability tooling and observability capabilities.
• Own logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategies across environments.
• Define patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, recovery and diagnostics.
• Lead scalability initiatives to improve performance, throughput and cost efficiency.
• Define release readiness criteria and quality gates before production ownership.
• Mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews and uphold standards.
• Collaborate with decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform and data teams to address risks.
