Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver the NBA platform's real-time decisioning services. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring scalable, auditable, and high-performance systems across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript.

This hands-on leadership role combines coding with mentoring, production readiness, and cross-team collaboration across platform, data, and product groups. Location allows hybrid travel to multiple U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience with platform reliability initiatives
• Strong experience building production software across Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks
• Strong observability practices including logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring
• Experience leading a small engineering pod and managing contractor resources
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms
• Clear communicator able to discuss risks and tradeoffs with leadership
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools to boost productivity

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for platform scale and reliability pod
• Maintain uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks
• Contribute production code and build reliability tooling
• Own logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy
• Define error handling, fault tolerance, and recovery patterns
• Evaluate platform behavior under load and drive improvements
• Define release readiness criteria and quality gates
• Mentor engineers and coordinate across teams
• Collaborate with decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams
