Job summary

Humana seeks a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver scalable NBA platform services for real-time recommendations. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring robustness, observability, and auditable operations at enterprise scale.

You’ll write production code, lead a small team, and set technical standards across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript while collaborating with platform, data, and product teams. This role is hybrid, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering with leadership in platform reliability and production operations.
• Strong experience with Java, Python, Node.js or TypeScript in production systems.
• Hands-on in automated testing, integration/end-to-end testing, and quality automation.
• Solid understanding of observability, logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for platform scale and reliability pod, including planning, execution, quality, and readiness across the NBA platform.
• Own uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence; identify bottlenecks before incidents.
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks spanning unit, integration, E2E, regression, and performance testing.
• Contribute production code, build reliability tooling, test automation, observability capabilities, and platform infra improvements.
• Define logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy across environments.
• Enforce fault tolerance, retries, resilience, and failure recovery patterns in distributed services.
• Lead initiatives to improve performance, throughput, reliability, and cost efficiency as usage grows.
• Define release readiness criteria and handoff standards for production ownership.
• Manage and mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews and uphold standards.
• Collaborate with cross-team decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
