Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and control systems for HV and EHV substations. You will lead an engineering team, develop relay philosophies, and coordinate multi-discipline design efforts across projects.

The role emphasizes mentorship, client liaison, and the delivery of engineering studies with strong communication skills in both Spanish and English.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from ABET-accredited engineering program.
• 10+ years in protection/control/telecommunications for HV substations.
• PE license.
• Experience liaising with firm/client in lead role.
• Experience documenting relay calculations.
• Familiar with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI design codes.
• Experience with vendor protective relay equipment (SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler).
• Proficient with MS Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; bilingual in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and design team for substation modifications.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and SCADA/telecom concepts.
• Mentor engineers and coordinate detailed design phases.
• Investigate and troubleshoot various engineering issues.
• Design single-line diagrams, relaying diagrams, metering diagrams, and DC schematics.
• Prepare engineering studies for client review.
• Review others' work for calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients, and suppliers.
• Propose upgrades and replacements after facility reviews.
• Occasional travel to client/vendor sites for reviews and field verification.
• Hybrid work arrangement with three days in office.
• Relocation package available depending on location.
