Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago seeks a Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC design for lab and industrial facilities. You will design HVAC systems, perform calculations, prepare specifications, and support overall project teams to deliver complete designs.

The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years of relevant HVAC experience, and familiarity with ASHRAE codes and standards. This position offers a hybrid work setup with three days in the office and two remote days.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering from ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program is required.
• 5+ years of HVAC system, ventilation systems, heating systems, and chilled water system design experience for laboratory and/or industrial facilities.
• Proficiency in TRACE 700 or Carrier HAP.
• Ability to create design flow diagrams, and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Prior knowledge of relevant codes and standards applicable to HVAC and ventilation system

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems and support detailed design phases of facility engineering projects.
• Perform design calculations and develop detailed system designs.
• Prepare technical specifications for HVAC equipment.
• Support engineers, project managers, clients, and suppliers to ensure timely design.
• Assist senior engineers with reviews of existing facilities and propose upgrades and improvements, and may present findings and recommendations to clients and peers.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE and current HVAC codes and standards.
