Job summary

Trane Technologies in Columbus, OH is seeking an Application Engineer II (Equipment) to lead equipment selection, pricing, and submittal activities for complex HVAC projects. You will validate configurations, review plans and specs, and collaborate with sales to ensure alignment with budget objectives and project success.

The role focuses on cost savings, supplier negotiations, and post-order technical support during installation, startup, and warranty phases.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Two years of project management or estimating experience; or five years in HVAC project management/estimating.
• Familiarity with HVAC systems and/or temperature controls preferred.

Responsibilities

• Optimize/validate equipment selection: size, configuration, voltage, options.
• Evaluate potential cost savings and identify cost issues on projects.
• Validate project scope against plans and specs; plan EQ/VPP dollar breaks; verify quantities.
• Support sales with submittals and coordinate job cost discussions; release submittals.
• Negotiate prices with vendors to optimize expenses and maintain competitiveness.
• Prepare equipment for order entry and reconcile job costs; provide post-order support.
