Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking motivated interns and new college graduates to join our immersive Design Engineering program in California. You will support the design team on HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection projects, assisting senior engineers and handling calculations, drawings, and specifications under supervision.

Responsibilities include loads, equipment sizing, duct sizing and coordinating with management, architects, and trades.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree aligned with Southland needs: Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Completion of Thermodynamics and HVAC Design coursework is highly desirable.
• Strong work ethic and proactive problem solving are essential.
• Ability to be resourceful, resilient, and to solve problems with limited guidance.

Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Engineers with design tasks and basic deliverables.
• Perform calculations, drawings, and specifications for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Calculate loads, equipment sizing, pipe/duct sizing, and friction losses.
• Coordinate design with project management, architects and trades.
• Perform and check CADD drafting work.
• Review codes and field conditions to support design.
