Job summary

Southland Industries in California is seeking an intern to join our Design Engineering team within the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection sector. You will assist the design team and gain hands-on experience on real projects under senior engineers.

This program offers exposure to calculations, drawings, CADD drafting, and collaboration with project management and architects, with a competitive hourly pay and opportunities for potential full-time employment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree aligned with Southland needs: Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor’s).
• Completion of Thermodynamics and HVAC Design coursework is desirable.
• Strong work ethic and initiative to get the job done.

Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Engineers in design tasks as required.
• Perform basic deliverables such as calculations, drawings, and specifications for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Perform basic project calculations: loads, equipment sizing, duct and pipe sizing, friction loss.
• Coordinate design with project management, architects, and other trades through completion.
• Perform and check CADD drafting work.
• Review codes and field conditions to support design.
