Job summary

Southland Industries seeks aDesign Engineering intern to support the design team in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection projects. You will assist with calculations, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of Senior Engineers.

You will gain hands-on experience with HVAC design concepts, read mechanical plans, and develop business writing and CAD skills while collaborating with project teams across locations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree aligned with Southland needs: Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Completion of Thermodynamics and HVAC Design classes highly desirable.
• Strong communication and writing skills; ability to convey information clearly.

Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Engineers in design tasks as required.
• Perform basic deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, and specifications for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Perform basic calculations for heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, and duct/pipe sizing.
• Coordinate project design activities with project management, architects, and other trades.
• Perform and check CADD drafting work.
• Review applicable codes and field conditions to support design.
