Job summary

GE Vernova in Oak Brook, IL is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer - Substation to lead HV and EHV substation design under a Lead Engineer. You will develop general arrangement drawings, plan and elevation views, BOMs, and bus, cable, and grounding layouts.

The role requires strong power systems experience, ability to perform calculations, coordinate with protection and control teams, write specs, evaluate vendors, and support project budgets and schedules in a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. GPA > 3.0 (U.S. system).
• Work experience in power systems engineering and design.
• Ability and willingness to travel, including internationally, per company travel and tax policies.

Responsibilities

• Execute technical tasks for AC substation projects under the guidance of a Lead Engineer.
• Develop high voltage substation: general arrangement and layout drawings, plan and elevation views, BOMs, and bus, cable, equipment, conduit, grounding, and control building arrangements.
• Perform engineering calculations related to substation design.
• Coordinate overall design with other disciplines, including single line diagrams, schematics, and relay protection requirements.
• Write specifications for high voltage equipment and prepare material purchase requests.
• Evaluate vendor quotations for substation equipment such as circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnect switches, transformers, cables, and protection systems.
• Resolve technical issues with customer and project manager.
• Collaborate to maintain project budget and schedule; interface with stakeholders.
