Job summary

Dashiell, a Quanta Services unit, is seeking a Substation Engineer in Chicago, IL. You will design substations from 34.5kV to 500kV, create wiring diagrams, and perform protective-relay studies in alignment with NEC/NESC/IEEE standards.

Based in our Chicago office, you will collaborate with project teams, review schedules, and mentor junior staff. A Bachelor's in EE and PE licensure or ability to obtain licensure within a year are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years in substation engineering design; senior roles require 7+ years.
• Licensed Professional Engineer or able to licensure within 1 year of hire.
• Familiarity with electrical relays used in the power utility industry.

Responsibilities

• Create design documents and drawings for projects (wiring diagrams, BOMs, as-builts).
• Perform relay burden, loading, short circuit calculations.
• Apply engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and power studies.
• Review project schedules with a project engineer to stay on track.
• Follow NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
