Job summary

Dashiell, an operating unit of Quanta Services, seeks a Supervising Substation Engineer to lead engineering teams in Chicago, IL. The role requires a PE license, 15+ years in electrical power, and extensive HV substation knowledge, with travel as needed. Office location: Chicago area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE); able to obtain a license if practicing in another state within one year.
• Minimum of 15 years in the electrical power industry with substation experience.
• Experience supervising design teams including multi‑discipline engineers, designers and drafters.
• Extensive knowledge of 138 kV+ HV substation components and their functions; AC/DC fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Ensure projects meet quality, schedule, and profitability objectives.
• Supervise multiple project teams to ensure on-time completion of projects.
• Assign projects to engineering teams based on requirements and resources.
• Coordinate with construction and purchasing to meet milestones.
• Ensure use of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards in designs.
• Communicate project activities with customers, teams, and management.
• Prepare and track project schedules and budgets to stay on plan.
• Apply engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, and load flow studies.
• Provide project engineering support to meet schedules as needed.
• Lead in a team environment and mentor junior staff.
