Job summary

Dashiell, an operating unit of Quanta Services, is seeking a Substation Engineer in Madison, WI to design substations from 34.5kV to 500kV. You will prepare design documents, perform calculations, and ensure compliance with NEC/NESC/IEEE/ANSI standards. Travel and site exposure are expected.

Licensure or path to licensure within a year is required. The role reports to the Supervising Engineer and offers opportunities for progression to Design Engineer I–III depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 3+ years in substation engineering design; senior roles require 7+ years of hands-on design.
• Licensed professional engineer or ability to gain licensure within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Create design documents and drawings for projects with minimal supervision.
• Perform relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short circuit calculations.
• Apply software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow and short circuit studies.
• Review project schedules with a project engineer to ensure on-time delivery.
• Apply NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards in engineering work.
• Properly use the document management system.
• Supervise project activities and coordinate with stakeholders as needed.
• Travel out of town for short periods as required by projects and assignments.
• Gain hands-on knowledge at job sites and in substation construction/design.
• Ensure quality and accuracy of all work; raise issues with responsible party.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
