Job description

Overview

Human Resources Specialist

Our team members advance our mission and exemplify excellence, compassion, teamwork, and purpose in all that they do. Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody these values to join our Regional HR team in the role of Human Resources Specialist.

We are seeking an analytically driven, independently minded, and genuinely curious HR professional to join the Medical Group HR team. This is not a purely transactional administrative role, while it includes tactical work like anniversary recognition, rehire eligibility verification, and I-9 processing, the heart of this position is analytical. The person in this role will own the exit interview process end to end; scheduling, conducting interviews with thoughtful follow up questions, synthesizing findings, and producing root cause analysis reports that go directly to HR business partners and physician leaders. They will also take on small special projects that require learning the business, digging into data, and making recommendations.

Key Relationships

Reports to: Director, Human Resources

Direct reports: None

Shift: Full time, Monday – Friday, hybrid

Location: Indianapolis, IN

The Scope:

This role supports Medical Group HR operations across Indiana, including:

  • Owning the exit interview process end to end: scheduling, conducting interviews with real probing questions, synthesizing findings, and distributing root cause analysis reports on turnover trends to HR business partners
  • Running reports and spreadsheets for HR business partners, including pivot table driven analysis and data synthesis
  • Managing anniversary cards and recognition pins and verifying rehire eligibility
  • Supporting I-9 processing
  • Fielding basic policy questions and escalating to the appropriate HR business partner when needed
  • Taking on special projects assigned by the Director
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality of employee data and sensitive HR matters at all times
Candidate Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent years of experience preferred.
  • One to three years of job related experience in a confidential environment preferred.

  • Knowledge and understanding of regulations and laws (e.g. FLSA; COBRA; ADA; FMLA; etc.).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office required (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); pivot table
The “DNA” for Success

Analytical and Critical Thinking First: This is the top priority. You do not just run the report; you ask what the data means, what is driving the trend, and what the business needs to know as a result.

Excel Proficient: Pivot tables, data analysis, and report generation are core to this role. You are extremely comfortable with Excel and do not need to be taught the basics.

Independently Driven: Most of the team is spread across the state and often out of the office. You work well on your own, manage your time without being reminded, and do not need someone nearby to stay productive.

Detail Oriented: Your output goes directly to physician leaders. Accuracy in names, titles, data, and formatting is not optional, it is the standard.

Genuinely Curious: You want to understand why a task matters and how HR supports the business, not just how to complete the task.

Service Oriented and Urgent: You respond with a sense of urgency, treat every request like it matters, and bring a customer service mindset to internal partners and stakeholders.

Professionally Mature: You bring professionalism, composure, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Growth Minded: You are motivated to develop, learn the business, and build a career in HR at IU Health.
