Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a security officer to protect people and property across its medical center facilities. You will patrol buildings and grounds, monitor surveillance, control access, and respond to alarms and emergencies while coordinating with supervisors and management.

The role emphasizes customer service, crisis de‑escalation, incident reporting, and escorting staff and patients as needed. Strong communication and a safety‑minded approach are essential.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required and effective communication abilities.
• Customer service background and ability to communicate effectively.
• Associate’s degree preferred; security-related experience is a plus.
• 3–6 months of military, police, fire, corrections, behavioral health, or healthcare security experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Patrol facility and grounds, inspect for hazards, unauthorized persons, and unsecured doors/windows, and take corrective actions.
• Respond to service calls, alarms, and emergency codes; assist with traffic and clinician needs.
• Enforce access control; issue badges, secure doors, and clear floors of visitors per policy.
• Provide escorts for patients, staff, and visitors; assist in crowd control during emergencies.
• Conduct preliminary investigations and document findings; prepare incident reports.
• Operate weapon detection equipment and monitor surveillance cameras; report suspicious activity.
• Assist in emergency response planning and coordinate with supervisory and management teams.
• Provide support for special events and mobile patrols; coordinate with other departments as needed.
• Screen guests and staff, perform bag checks, and maintain awareness of security risks.
