Job summary

Saint Francis Healthcare System is seeking a Communications Operator to be the central contact for the public and hospital departments. The role handles multi-line calls, screens requests, and routes information for patient locations, physicians, and transfers, including beeper activation and paging.

The operator serves in emergency situations, documents codes per protocol, monitors surveillance and weather, and supports security and after-hours departments such as home health and hospice.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years customer service experience preferred.
• Experience with switchboard operations and high-volume calls helpful.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answer main telephone lines and direct calls to departments.
• Screen requests, provide patient location and physician information.
• Monitor overhead paging and PA system; document emergencies.
• Assist security during drills and incidents; support after-hours contacts.
• Coordinate transportation and patient flow as needed.
