Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Histology for per diem shifts. You will support daily lab operations, handle specimen management, and assist with inventory and instrument maintenance.

The role involves front-end processing, sample transport, and morgue-related duties under supervision. A high school diploma with biology/chemistry credits and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• High School Degree with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience including handling open containers of blood and body fluid.
• Knowledge of computer applications (Excel and Word).
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff with day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including specimen management, inventory, and instrument maintenance.
• Assist Pathology Department with daily maintenance and morgue-related duties.
• Maintain supplies and document receipts per NYU policy and regulatory guidelines.
• Process samples for analysis and manage front-end labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, and transport.
• Back-end processing of samples, storage, tracking, and disposal per policy.
• Dispose of department waste and clean work surfaces per protocols.
