Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Histology (Per Diem) to support the daily operations of the Clinical Labs team. The role involves specimen management, inventory handling, instrument maintenance, and coordination with providers and other laboratories.

The candidate will assist with morgue duties, records, and front-end processing of samples, including labeling, centrifuging, and preparing specimens for analysis on automated platforms.

Qualifications

• High School Degree with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience including handling open containers of blood and body fluid (accessioning/intake not included).
• Knowledge of computer applications especially Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff with the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, providing clinical, clerical and inventory management support.
• Assist the Pathology Department in daily maintenance, receipt of bodies, record keeping and morgue upkeep.
• Maintain supplies for general lab items and department reagents; notify supervisor when restocking is needed.
• Ensure proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials; document deliveries per NYU policy.
• Prepare samples for analysis: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transporting and placing on automated platforms.
• Process samples for storage, tracking and disposal per policy.
• Dispose of all department waste per regulations and maintain cleanliness of work areas.
