Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Task Leader for highway design on our New England Transportation team. The role can be based in Boston, MA, East Hartford, CT, or Manchester, NH, and will coordinate design delivery, mentor staff, and deliver innovative solutions for complex transportation challenges.

You will lead project design development, oversee daily tasks, manage stakeholder requirements, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards while signing and sealing designs as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering
• Professional engineering (PE) license
• 10 years of related experience
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the technical advancement of highway design projects, communicate the vision for final deliverables, and ensure technical accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide day-to-day direct oversight of transportation planning and design projects, ensuring milestones and quality standards are met.
• Supervise, review, and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and growth opportunities.
• Develop project design criteria, alignments, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Work closely with Project Technical Leaders and Project Managers to deliver high-complexity projects tailored to client requirements.
• Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; sign and seal designs as required.
